|Ancient and Renaissance Rome’s ‘Beverly Hills’
No visit to Rome is complete without a drive through the charming vine-trellised, palatial hill towns of the Castelli Romani,
This wealthy region south of Rome, though much more rustic than once upon time, was the weekend retread for elite Romans of the city’s ancient and Renaissance eras. The Castelli Romani, with its luxurious estates and villas, was a veritable “Beverly Hill” just few kilometers outside Rome along the Via Appia.
Elegant villas and idyllic landscape are also found to the east, in Tivoli, to the west, in Ostia, and to the north, in the Etruscan cites Cerveteri and Tarquinia.
