Montalcino Wine Route
 Moltalcino, the town and surrounding countryside, deserves individual attention by any visitor to Tuscany.
This is perhaps has been the most loved route by wine connoisseurs and ordinary wine lovers alike -for centuries -due to the great quality of Montalcino crisp, hearty red vintages.
This wine route is not defined by any particular road in as much as it is by particular wines - Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino. These are the area's signature red vintages.
These two great wines, considered by red wine lovers to be Italy's crown jewels, are produced in a perfect balance of rich soil, warm climate and vineyards perfectly position along sloping hillsides.
The town of Montalcino itself is well worth visiting, especially the town hall, bishops palaces, the Romanic-Gothic church of St. Egidio Church as well as and St. Agustine's cave.
Montalcino's Civic and Diocesan Museum host some the best paintings of the Sienan School.
Inside you will admire works by Bartolo di Fredi, Sano di Pietro and Luca di Tommè.
Outside the town's walls one can walk down picturesque leafy pathways to various wineries nestled among the vines.
Here, after stopping to taste a wine or two, we will pass by medieval borgos, thick woods and large plots of agricultural land where you may also be invited to try local cheese and produce.
