Tuscia Oil and Wine Route
 Just north of Rome heading toward Viterbo lays the heart of the Tuscia region and Lago di Vico regional park.
From here you can choose among four mini-routes along the "Tuscia Oil and Wine Route". The four routes are named "Città dei Papi", "Teverina", "Lacustre" and "Maremma Etrusca".
The Tuscia region is rich in medieval borgos and historic centers built on the same foundations of ancient Etruscan villages.
Some of these borgos, like Gradoli, Marta, Montefiascone, Valentano, surround Italy's largest volcanic lake, Lago di Bolsena.
This lake is deep, full of legend and rich with vegetation.
From the lakeside you can hike natural paths for breathtaking panoramic views while peering out among the pine and chestnut forests.
The woods are also filled with an abundance of wild mushrooms and berries.
Of particular interest is the town of Ronciglione dating back to Roman times and built atop a mound of tuffa stone.
The town's Baroque cathedral and castle, Castello Della Rovere are worth visiting.
Nearby is the charming fortified town of Civitacastellana, with its centuries old medieval wall borgo-filled spires. Here you may imbibe the local wines and sit down for a leisurely lunch or dinner.
