One of our English-speaking chauffeurs will pick you up at your hotel, bright and early. When making use of museum guide service, entrance into the museum is required between 8:15-8:45 a.m.
You will then be escorted directly to the high stone and brick walls of Vatican City. From there we will leave you in the hands of one of our officially licensed guides at the entrance of the Vatican Museums.
Here you are allowed to enter into a special line, thereby saving you precious time while avoiding 1-2 queues in sweltering summer heat or bad winter weather.
Once inside the Vatican Museums you will be astounded by the Holy See's wealth of artistic treasures -from ancient Egyptian, Classical Roman and Greek to Medieval and Renaissance paintings and sculpture. Only the Louvre in Paris or Prato in Madrid can possibly rival the Vatican Museums in terms of the quantity and quality of art!
After crossing the Cortile della Pigna you will enter Palazzo Belvedere, the first stop and heart of the Vatican Museums. From here your will continue through several minor but important exhibits, such as the Candle Gallery, Map and Oriental Rug Rooms before entering the Apostolic Building -the oldest part of the Vatican complex. Here your guide will lead you through the former private quarters of Pope Julius II, splendidly adorned with artwork created by Raffaello. Next stop is the world-famous Sistine Chapel, whose art is the work of Renaissance painter and sculptor, Michelangelo. The chapel was recently restored for the 2000 Jubilee year, allowing visitors to marvel amid its renewed splendor.
Descending the Bernini-designed stairwell, Scala Regia, you will enter St. Peter's Basilica -the most important and largest church in all of Christianity. The basilica is home to 2000 years of history, beginning with the bones of St. Peter in its Scavi crypt and including Michelangelo's marble masterpiece, La Pietà. The incredible size and height of the basilica's gilded walls and gigantic marble statues will amaze you.
When your driver meets you outside the main exit, you may decide whether to return to your hotel or continue sight seeing in the surrounding borgo and Tiber River area.
We can arrange an all-private tour of Vatican Museums for a maximum of 6 visitors in 2 full hours. The main doors of the Museums will be opened just for you and your party at 3:30 p.m. (after regular visiting hours).
You will enjoy the ultimate experience of having the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel all to yourself with unlimited explanations from our officially licensed guide.
Like Michelangelo himself, you will be able to admire the Sistine Chapel and exhibit rooms in perfect silence, without the distraction of large crowds and competing voices.
N.B. VIP Reservations must be made AT LEAST 1 MONTH IN ADVANCE.
