Gently rolling hill country lined with robust olive trees, leafy grape vines, wide open prairies and thick woods is the landscape adorning the famous San Gimignano valley.
The San Gimignano region, perfectly preserving its medieval architectural heritage among castles and borgos, produces one of the Italy's most prestigious wines - Vernaccia - once upon a time imbibed by Dante and even mentioned in his masterpiece, the Divine Comedy.
This valley also produces rich olive oil in abundance, poured by locals on toasted bread with chopped tomatoes and basil on "bruschette" or added to many rural recipes for making soups and minestrone.
